PITTSVILLE – Farmers in the Vesper/Pittsville area are invited to participate in a free “Spay/Neuter Day” event for their barn cats.

The event is organized by Pittsville native, Carrie Lippert Gillaspie through the nonprofit “The Fix Is In.”

“I noticed that many of the local farms were overpopulated with barn cats and wanted to do something to help,” said Gillaspie. “Cats are integral to the farm ecosystem, but two cats can quickly turn into 22 cats, making it an unhealthy environment. It can lead to more problems, inbreeding, overpopulation, the spread of disease. Spaying and neutering is so important, and this event helps make it as easy and affordable as possible for the farmers in my neighborhood.”

Gillaspie contacted The Fix Is In, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide high quality, affordable spay and neuter services. The clinic team travels throughout northern Wisconsin providing affordable, high quality spay/neuter services in more than eight counties. Since July 2012, a total of over 20,000 spay/neuter surgeries have been completed.

The event will take place Nov. 6, with the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter and the Pittsville FFA assisting.

To register, contact Gillaspie at clippert13@gmail.com or call 857-248-1276 by Oct. 31.

To donate, visit thefixisin.org and designate the donation for the Vesper/Pittsville event, or mail a tax-deductible donation to 6083 Oak Road, Vesper, WI, 54489.
