Riverkings Fall to Ducks in Overtime
City Times Staff
It took extra time to decide a winner on Friday night, and the defending champion Dells Ducks came out on top.
The second place Ducks visited the first place Riverkings in a tight contest at the South Wood County Recreational Center. After being down a goal after the first period, two goals by Riverkings forward Reed Kaiser put Wis. Rapids out in front 2-1. Ryan Mantz and Kevin Van Bokkelen helped out with assists.
However, midway through the third period, a goal by Ducks forward Trevor Jestadt tied the game at two. 10 minutes wasn’t enough to decide a winner, as the game moved to overtime.
It took nearly the entire overtime period to decide a winner, as with 31 seconds left, Ducks skater Christian Vella slapped in the winning goal, securing a 3-2 win for the Ducks.
The Riverkings remain in first place by one game over the Ducks, and take on the Steel County Blades tonight to try and extend their lead in the Elite Midwest Division.
